The nail-biting extended contest where the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a total 51M viewers across the United States, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB reported this represents the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 showdown featuring the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest drew 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a 16% increase over the last Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 was seventh, Game 5 was eighth, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth position.

Global Audience Numbers

In Canada, the game drew 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English broadcast in the country after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – recorded 13.1M viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a single network in Japan.

Series Averages and Trends

The full seven-match series recorded 15.71M viewers on Fox, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the complete US viewership reached over 16 million. The total Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew over 8 million watchers, an 8% increase over last year and the network’s strongest playoff performance after 2017.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was televised in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 various tongues.
